Mushrooms
The growing and selling of mushrooms is a key component to the permaculture system. Not only do mushrooms sell well but their left over
substrate or growing material can be used for both feeding the worms and the Tilapia. To learn more about how it can be used to feed
your fish, click here.
Why grow mushrooms?
A pound of DDGS, which commands a price of only three to five cents per poind dry weight, will yield up to one
pound of oyster mushrooms, wet weight. The value of the oyster mushrooms is currently around $3 per pound
wholesale; shitake is worth $5 to $7 per pound.
